An Innovative New Drinking Fountain Design From Europe

Drinking Fountain Installation - The Tropism Well from the UKWe came across a very interesting news article from the UK this week about the Tropism Well, a ‘sculpturtal installation’ piece desinged by Richard Harvey and Keivor Stainer – known collectively as Poietic Studio. The piece is a futuristic and almost life-like drinking fountain that is certainly unlike anything we have ever seen before! As you approach the Tropism Well it recognizes your presence, and gently lowers a long arm which has a jug attached to the end of it, pouring you a glass of water from the jug before gracefully retreating back to its starting position.

We don’t fully know how it works but according to the creators, “once it has seen you, the gently bowing motion is created simply by moving water up and down the stem.”

Have a look at the video below to see the Tropism Well in action:

Poietic Studio hope that the installation will open up new dialogues around the way in which water is dispensed and consumed in public places, and judging by this exciting creation we could see some interesting developments in the world of drinking fountains in the future!

Poietic Studio aims to use their expertise in art, design and engineering to create unique and tangible experiences. Read more on the Tropism Well on their website.
